IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM ICF PRESIDENT

Dear carrom lovers all over the world,

These for sure are special times, new for all of us!

So, right away, let me start with the sad news, news I am sure you all have expected; there will be no international tournaments this year! In Europe we had to cancel the Eurocup to be held in Poland, and our dear friends from Malaysia also had to cancel the WC 2020!

Both events are rescheduled in 2021!

While it is sad, it has become reality across all sports!

But now to the good news: this is a huge chance for our game! We have found formats to challenge each other online! We have connected so much in these times and it is just amazing to see that! So many top players and world champions can be seen playing live on a daily basis! Tournaments within Indian states, the US, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and we here in Europe compete for the third time already!

So, I encourage you all to practice, carry on with these formats and our goal should be to have big online events this summer. We for sure plan a Eurocup, I think a continental tournament would be an option and around mid-September as a highlight an ICF format event! Think about disciplines, about something new, come forward with your ideas and let us just enjoy this game through tons of live videos!

As always, I will try to support and come up with some special prizes for the ICF event!

Let us use this time to refocus on the true values in life, recharge our batteries, stay with our loved ones and practice the best game there is, our carrom!

I assure you I spent more time at the table than the last few years together and I love it!

In this sense, I wish you all a wonderful time and; stay safe, stay home and play carrom!

Virtual hugs to everybody!

Your president ICF,

Josef Meyer!

Comment from the writer,

Malaysia is fortunate enough to host a prestigious tournament, the Carrom World Championship 2020. The bid to host has been announced following the completion of the Carrom World Cup tournament on August 29th, 2018 in Chuncheon, South Korea. This Carrom World Championship is the 8th time since the 7th tournament that took place in Birmingham, United Kingdom from November 7th to November 11th, 2016.

Malaysia has already set the tournament from September 16th to September 20th, 2020. This date has been unanimously approved by the members of the Malaysian Carrom Association as it celebrates Malaysia Day on September 16th. Malaysia as a host is looking forward to the date of the tournament and has been working since the day one when the international carrom federation has given the opportunity to host it.

The tournament, however, had to be postponed due to the pandemic corona virus (covid-19) spreading all over the world. Due to this covid-19 disease, the tournament had to be postponed until further notice. If everything back to normal, most likely next year but a date has not yet been set. To the Malaysian carrom fans please wait patiently for the new date that will announce later.

The writer personally sees the current situation is also gives advantage to Malaysia as a host for the first time to be well prepared. On top of that local carrom players have more time to train and enhance their skills for the future.

Lastly, I hope the local carrom lovers who wants to know more details and explore about international carrom, please contact the writer if you need the equipment, coaching and advise.

For time being please stay focus, stay alert and stay healthy.
